5 pt. Quality
The character can communicate mentally with anyone they know well, as
long as they can see them or know where they are. While doing so, the
character hears any thoughts directed at her. The telepath can do this with
a number of people equal to their Willpower.
A telepath can also read the thoughts of anyone she is either in eye
contact with, or in physical contact with if she wins in a doubled
Willpower roll vs. a doubled Willpower roll of the target. Successive
attempts beyond the first each take a cumulative -2 penalty, however, and the
effect lasts for one minute per SL.
The depth of what the Telepath can sense is dependant on how well they
make their doubled Willpower roll, on the following chart:
| 1 | Can sense basic emotions. |
| 2 | Can sense surface thoughts. |
| 3 | Can delve deeper into the mind of the target, "asking" one question of the player that they must respond honestly to. |
| 4 | Can get a clear picture of the target's personality, find memories, and get any information available. |
House Rule: Unless you yourself are a telepath, or have some form of supernatural senses that allows you to detect psychic power, you have no way of knowing that someone is attempting to read your mind unless while in telepathic communion, they choose to communicate with you. The rolls made when a telepath is attempting to read someone's mind are natural, instinctive defenses. This ruling is supported by canon, as per the Season 3 episode 'Hearshot'. Buffy's friends had no idea she was reading their minds until she actually said something that indicated she had.
