Experience
There are five ways in which a player can obtain experience: participation in episodes, participation in player-run plots (NEWS PST and NEWS PRP), running a PRP, and being recommended in one of two fashions by another player for exceptional role play. These award guidelines are as follows:
Staff-run Episodes will provide an XP award to all players involved with the episode. The usual award will be 2 points, though this may run as low as 1 point for minor episodes, or as high as 5 for a season finale.
Player Storyteller-run Plots (PRP) also provide XP. The award is 1 point for each participant for most routine PRP’s (such as cemetery patrols that result in monsters, or other similar scenarios), and 2 points if there is significant risk (Participants must have faced severe opposition and clearly had their lives in jeopardy). Participation in long-term PRP plots can earn you 3 points at the player storyteller's discretion for the final end scene of the story. The PST is responsible for this reward, using the command, +xp/add <PLAYER>=<NUMBER>=<REASON, LIKE "PARTICIPATED IN MY PRP ABOUT VAMPIRES">. Note that if the PST’s alt is involved in the scene, that alt does not recieve the participation XP. That alt will instead receive the PST reward from staff for running the PRP.
Player Storytellers receive 1-4 XP (determined and awarded by staff) for each PRP or Adversary scene they run and log to the Forums. Staff will award this XP after the log is posted and the PST has submitted a +request with a short summary of the scene (ie., "Ran a great scene where Bob and Jim fought three vampire burglars at the supermarket."), and staff will comment to the log that it was awarded. Players who participated in the scene may also feel free to +vote and +recc the PST if they feel it was a particularly well run PRP.
Player Votes may be used to nominate other Players and PST’s for XP to reward general role play. There are two ways to do so. The first is the command, +vote <PLAYER>. +Votes will provide a reward of .2 XP per vote. This is just a little 'hey, thanks for taking the time to RP with me' way to show your appreciation. You may cast one vote for each person once a week, and they are processed on Saturday at 12:01 AM MST. See also: +help +vote.
Players may also nominate other Players and PST’s using +recc <PLAYER>=<POSE AND REASON>. This command is for when you wish to acknowledge truly superlative roleplay, whether it is in a social scene or an episode/PRP. A copy of a sample pose MUST be included in the +recc, along with a brief (a sentence or two) explanation of why it is considered exceptional. A +recc awards 1 XP, but MUST contain a sample pose and explanation, or it will be denied.
| Type of Reward | Amount of Reward |
|---|---|
| +Vote | .2 XP |
| Staff-Run Episodes | Between 1-5 XP depending on Episode, Average of 2 XP |
| Player Run Plot | Between 1-3 XP |
| PSTing a PRP | Between 1-4 XP at Staff discretion |
| +recc | 1 XP for exceptional roleplaying |
Drama Points
Drama points are gained primarily through participation in episodes and PRPs, and can be awarded by staff and storytellers. If your character is making with the snappy dialogue, and/or going through some hard times, they might get anywhere from .1 to 1 DP at the awarder's discretion. Of course, Drama can also be purchased with XP points, and staff is likely to award them for witty/quippy/dramatic/exceptional poses found on the quote board, or generally anything that tickles our fancy.
Limits
There are no limits to the amount of XP a character can receive during any time period, however, use of the xp (and drama) granting commands are monitored by staff. A character cannot have more Drama Points than what they start out with, as determined by their character type (NEWS Character Types).
