Please Note
The following list the rules and policies of Let The End Times Roll. Please note, you are expected to have read and be familiar with these policies, as well as abide by them. If you have any questions or need qualifications on any policies, please contact staff. Also note, this is simply the primary things that we feel should be addressed prior to deciding to play here. Staff can and will take disciplinary action based on conduct as they feel appropriate.
Alt Conflict
Alt conflict in its simplest concept is when a person who has two PCs allows them to interact and/or overlap in such a way that the interests/enemies/goals of one become the interest/enemies/goals of the other. In essence, the person is then capable of advancing themselves with two PCs, two sets of abilities, two sets of friends, etc. Obviously this can be unbalancing to the game and make the mush a lot less fun for a lot of people.
Let The End Times Roll has no 'set in stone' alt-conflict policy. We like to trust that our players are intelligent, mature and responsible enough to recognize when they're possibly beginning to tread in the realm of alt-conflict and, as always, staff is here if someone is starting to question themselves. Chances are, however, if a person is questioning their own actions they're alt conflicting already.
What we do have instead of hard line policy is this: staff reserves the right to point out when we think someone is alt conflicting. The player may disagree, but if a staffer is having an official discussion with them about the issue then staff as a whole has already reached consensus. The possibility that we will change the ruling is very small. When staff talks to a player about this issue the player will be expected to take steps to remediate the situation as soon as possible and take /no further/ steps to continue the alt conflict. If this means a character gets the flu and stays in bed for a week until the possible conflict passes, then that's what happens. If staff needs to speak with a person twice the person could be subject to suspension per news ooc vs ic; but worse then that we will take steps to remedy the situation in the most immediate way possible. Let's be honest, no one wants us to have that sort of freedom.
In addition to this, characters owned by the same person cannot be in a situation where they may possibly interact with one another. If this becomes a possibility, one character must be immediately removed. In staff-run scenes, a staffer may choose (at their discretion) to allow alts to participate but they retain the absolute authority to boot one or the other if they believe the scene isn't being played fairly or in an IC manner.
Consent
We are a modified consent game. What, exactly, does that mean? In a nutshell, it means that you have control over your character, and as long as you don't put your character into a dangerous situation, then it is not in danger. It means we do not tolerate random PKing or injuring of characters on the whims of others. However, please keep in mind that the very nature of Hero and Champion level characters /requires/ them to be put into danger on a regular basis. If you are not interested in your character facing possible injury — and the chance of character death — do not apply for a character of that level.
There are certain things that can happen to your character without your express consent. By taking traits such as Magic Magnet or Adversary, for example, consent for wacky hijinks to happen to your character is implied. Storytellers are not out to make /your/ life miserable, but your character might have a miserable day — or just a really weird one — if you take traits such as these, so please keep that in mind during CG. Furthermore, Storytellers are not out to get your character injured or killed. If you get involved in a dangerous situation that looks like it's going south, keep in mind that /running away/ is always a valid option. We will do what we can to make sure your character doesn't get killed, but if you continue to kick the hornet's nest… expect to get stung.
Etiquette
The staff of Let The End Times Roll encourages our player base to interact on an OOC level. Three of the ways we encourage this are our com channels, our OOC Lounge, and the forums. These are both avenues for players to just get together, hang out, and have fun through OOC conversations about topics both game related and non-game related. We feel that OOC relations encourage a sense of community and cooperation on the game that can only benefit IC happenings.
With that said, we would like to take a moment to remind people that these /are/ avenues to foster a sense of community. Friendly banter and teasing is to be expected. In fact, it is even encouraged. Outright mean and snide comments, however, are discouraged as they are more harmful than helpful to forming a sense of community and belonging. While laughing /with/ one another is fine, no one wants to be singled out and laughed /at/. So, before you hit enter after that biting comment, stop and think: is this something I would find funny if it were being said about me? And if the answer is no, please don't hit enter.
In line with keeping this policy, staff reserves the right to remove hurtful posts from the forums. Also in keeping with this policy, any player, at any time, can ask another player to refrain from a comment or topic, or ask staff to intervene.
Harassment
Essentially, we take harassment seriously here on the game, and it is one of our rather big no-nos. Don't do it. We mean it. If you cannot resolve something with another player in an OOC vein, this is one of the reasons staff is here. (We'd hope that adults CAN work things out, but still, we're here to help).
Keep in mind, there are two things to remember above all else when a matter of harassment may be involved:
- Log EVERYTHING. Because when time comes down to make a ruling, staff is not likely to do anything unless you can prove that, yes, player X WAS in fact harassing you.
- It is not harassment until you TELL THEM TO STOP, and then they persist despite that. Note, that first step is the important one. We don't care if they've paged you a hundred times; if you haven't told them not to, it's still not harassment. YOU have to take the first step.
If you've paid attention to both 1 and 2, please contact staff if a harassment situation should arise, and we will take appropriate action.
Idling
Because we do not use FCs, Let The End Times Roll does not have a particularly strict idle policy. On occasion, we will go through and purge characters that are 30+ days idle.
Players who notify staff via +request of times away from the game that extend to 30 days or more may have a VACATION attribute set on them. This will cause the code that checks for log-ins to bypass them and prevent an idle-purge.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The VACATION attribute automatically clears whenever you log in. So if you log in just to say hi or check @mail, you MUST MUST MUST +request another VACATION set.
