NPC Creation

When it comes to running PRPs, there's always the question of the bad guys. How much damage can one do, and what are their scores. Buffy makes this simple, having a series of Ability Scores, which skip the need for rolling, and thus making it easier on you. Ability Scores double as your roll totals. When using an Ability Score, these totals let you figure out success levels at a glance.

Now you can always duplicate the existing stats from another monster in one of the books, but in the event you don't have them, here's how you go about creating your own statblock for bad guys.

First off, figure out what their Attributes and relevant Skills are going to be. All six attributes, and skills like Acrobatics, Kung Fu, Getting Medieval, Notice, Occultism, Crime, etc. You'll need the attributes to also figure out damage, so it's good to have these written out.

Stat Scores

Muscle Score - This is the score you use when raw strength is necessary. Double Strength + 6. Your average human is going to have an average Muscle score of 10, while the average vampire runs 16-18.

Combat - This is the score you're going to use the most often, most likely. Dexterity + Average of the relevant Combat skills + 6. If someone's just a Kung Fu junkie, just use a general Kung Fu score. Or if they're mostly a gun bunny, just use that. The average human is going to have a 10 combat, while the average vampire is again in the 16-18 range.

Brains - This is the average of all the mental attributes (If they've got 2s straight down, then this would be a 2 also, for example) + Average of Applicable Skills (Notice, Crime, Occultism) + 6.

Now figure out the typical combat maneuvers your beastie is going to be using. Vampires use Bite, (and thus Grapple), Kick, and Punch. Add in the modifiers for these attacks, based on your Combat Score. With a combat score of 12, Punch is going to have a 12, while Grapple would be 14 (for the +2), and a Kick would be 11 (for the -1). Damage is figured as normal, using the Combat Score for the success level additions.

Example

A vampire with Strength 6, and a Combat score of 14 uses a Spin Kick. The score to beat is going to be 12. The damage is going to be 6+2 (Strength + bonus for Spin Kick) x2, or 16. Add in the damage from the SLs (12, or 2 SLs) 18 damage. In the NPC combat statblocks, you'd see this as:

Manuever Score Damage
Spin Kick 12 18
