Background
It was a few years ago, though it feels like longer, when I first arrived in Nevada. Desert Pines high school. I was a junior, just a new kid from a different state, one much older. I arrived, fell in love, graduated, hung around working at the local gas station so I could stay close to my girlfriend. But life doesn't stay normal for long, and true to suit, things go weird. Not with the relationship, but with… well life. I swear I saw things I couldn't explain. I thought i was going insane. Once I started noticing these things, I couldn't stop. So I did the only rational thing I could think of. I up and left, joined the Marine Corps, became an MP and was promptly sent to Iraq. That is when I came full circle with weird. It wasn't my mind, I wasn't going crazy, it was the world. I always had a knack for catching things things others fail to notice and that's what lead me further into the service.

1. Per the provisions of reference article 26.b, effective 1201, 22 April 2009, Cpl Mitchel J. Maxwell, will be awaiting transfer to Initiative Command Las Vegas, Nevada.
2. Maxwell is another case of someone being in the right place at the wrong time. While stationed in Iraq during his tour of duty with the U.S.M.C. he encountered and successfully terminated a Hostile Sub-Terran, referred to as HST hereon. The fact that he was able to successfully accomplish this feat itself is not why our scoop teams decided to interview and later on recruit this individual, it was that he discovered the HST after our sweep teams had gone through the area and deemed it clear. Secondly during and after the encounter the individual remained in control of his faculties, clearing describing the encounter afterwords as if it was a standard occurrence for him. He was closely monitored during induction and training and we found his attitude while being briefed on the HST threat to be straight forward and unsurprised. This individual has excelled in training and we believe he will be a valuable addition. Also, as a side note, the individual is familiar with the area so should adapt well to the new command.**

I'm heading home. Back to Las Vegas. Funny, it isn't where I was born, but its still home. I wonder if Laurel….. Nah… she's probably half way around the world by now, and definitely forgot all about me. She had a bright future, not like me, stuck in the dark with all that lurks there. I wonder how many things are just waiting to go bump in the night when I get back.
