There is no penalty for Life Point loss until they drop to ten or less.
Below 10: A character with ten or fewer Life Points is badly injured. All combat rolls are done at a -2 penalty.
Below 5: A character with five or fewer Life Points severely injured. All combat rolls are done at a -4 penalty. This is not cumulative with the 'Below 10' penalty.
Consciousness Tests: A character who has reached 0 or fewer Life Points may be knocked unconscious or otherwise incapacitated (aware but unable to act due to heinous injury). If reduced to 0 or fewer Life Points, a character must make a Willpower + Constitution roll, with a penalty of -1 for every Life Point below 0 (ex. Someone at -3 Life Points makes the roll with a -3 modifier). The character needs at least 1 success to remain conscious. The character is able to act normally, though still with the -4 penalty from being below 5 Life Points. Each time the character is injured a new Consciousness Test must be made (ex. Someone with -3 Life Points succeeded at a Consciousness Test. The character is hit again and brought down to -7 Life Points. Another Consciousness Test must be made, this time with a -7 modifier to the roll). The Resistance (Pain) gives a bonus to Consciousness Tests.
Survival Tests: At -10 Life Points or less, a character may die. The character must make a Willpower + Constitution with a penalty of -1 for every 10 points below 0 (ex. Someone with -32 Life Points would roll with a -3 modifier). Levels of Hard to Kill provide a bonus to this test. The character needs at least 1 success to survive. If the character fails the roll, he or she is dead. If the character is further damaged, another Survival Test will be required.
Slow Death: Unless a character receives medical attention an additional Survival Test is required for each minute that passes. There is a -1 penalty for every minute that has passed since the initial injury. This is cumulative with the negative modifier that comes from every ten Life Points below 0 (ex. Someone has -27 Life Points and 10 minutes have passed since the injury is received. The character makes a Willpower + Constitution roll with a penalty of -12). Stabilizing a character requires a successful Intelligence + Doctor check.
