Background

Erik was born in the small town of Oak Springs, in Southern California. Not terribly far from Sunnydale, actually, but he’d never been there before the sinkhole. He had a fairly typical life, going to a public high school and doing all the usual activities. He played football, but wasn’t outstanding. He took karate classes, but never excelled. He made fair grades, but wasn’t going to get any scholarships.

It wasn’t until his senior year of high school that he was introduced to the real world beneath the one he’d always known. A number of strange, vicious deaths rocked the town, attributed to wild animal attacks. Erik’s grandfather, Jeremiah, seemed convinced that it was only going to get worse, though, and he was soon proved correct. When Eriks best friend turned up victim to one of these attacks, Erik took to the streets looking for some vigilante justice with his grandfathers hand-carved longbow. He barely survived his first encounter, but did learn that whatever it was, it wasn’t natural, and it wasn’t a puma or wild dog. Returning to his grandfather, Erik told his tale of the demonic creature, and Jeremiah knew what to do. Knowing that his grandson had made himself an enemy of the creature, he enlisted the aid of an old friend.

Erik’s initiation as a Totem Warrior was a surprise. Jeremiah’s friend petitioned the local spirits to help the town. The spirit who answered the call, an ancient Indian, had other plans and channeled the Bear Spirit to empower Erik to become a Totem Warrior, a lifelong enemy of all Wendigo. Erik was now stronger, faster, and tougher than almost anyone around him with keen senses and a resilient nature. Due to the specifics of the calling laid upon him, he rapidly heals the damage sustained during battle so that he may live to fight on.

Since killing the Wendigo stalking Oak Springs, Erik has set out to protect others from the dangers of the night. Unable to keep his hunt concentrated solely on Wendigo, he has also encountered various vampires and demons, and gained a little more experience with the wide underground world of the supernatural. By the time he reaches Vegas, he’s fairly experienced in the areas he needs to know, but still has a lot of room for improvement. As part of his semi-nomadic existence, he’d adopted a biker theme, riding a powerful Harley and frequenting rough locations that often more closely border the supernatural world than upscale or middle-class settings.

• Erik arrived in Vegas after two years of nomadic demon-hunting in the California/Nevada area.
• He meets up with a couple other Totem Warriors and the odd Slayer and Watcher or two.

• Erik meets an annoying vampire who wants to be a TV star. Kills a few of her minions and trashes her rehearsal audition.
• Erik's girlfriend is targeted by an ancient Wendigo, leaving her in the hospital and burning down her house.
• Laurel is released from the hospital and moves in with Erik.
• Erik gets into a bar brawl that turns abruptly horrific when Raul stabs one guy through the heart and cuts off another's head.
