2 point Quality
Characters with this trait can, with a Perception and Notice roll, tell what someone is feeling. As it just so happens, people are generally poor at hiding anger, grief, confidence and smug self satisfaction- things of that sort. The better the roll, the more the character learns about the emotion being felt though, at no point, do they become aware of why the person feels that way. With enough SLs, a character can tell the difference between being mad at someone and being internally mad, but not if the person's anger is being caused by anything in particular. To carry this example, they could be mad at themselves for failing to be polite to a jerk or they could be mad because someone's a jerk. An empath cannot directly determine if someone is lying, because empathy extends only to emotion. The typical happy, sad, frustrated, nervous, frightened sort of emotions.
It should be noted that Empathy only works on those who have human minds; vampires, demons, ghosts, drawback wolves, zombies and the like have minds too alien to perceive. Half demons can, somewhat predictably, only be partially read. Characters can choose to portray this by deciding (amongst the two characters involved) whether to apply a -3 penalty to the roll or if successful results will be diffuse and undefined. In the case of disagreement, diffuse and undefined applies.
