Drama Points are the way that Players can help to tweak some aspects of the script. There are two things to consider…how they're received, and how they're spent.
Receiving DP
Receiving Drama Points comes in several ways:
Purchase with XP: 1 XP = 1 DP for White Hats/Investigators — 2 XP = 1 DP for Heroes/Champions
Log Evaluation: Staff may choose to award a Drama Point for significant logs. This should not be expected and will not be standard, but will be awarded for logs above the pale.
Bad Things: Essentially, when the script or the staff screw with characters significantly, they may reward the players by assigning anywhere between .5 and 2 Drama Points to them.
Hero Support: When White Hats help out their Hero/Champion friends (and ONLY White Hats…Investigators don't get this option), with emotional trauma/distress/sanity keeping, they may receive an additional reward at the discretion of staff or storytellers.
Spending DP
Spending Drama Points can be done through one of several ways, and unless otherwise stated, each of these options costs 1 drama point:
Heroic Feat: Gives a +10 bonus to any given roll.
I Think I'm Okay: This can be used no more than once per round. It halves all Life Point damage the character has taken up to this point. Fractions are rounded to the character's benefit. If the character has been incapacitated or knocked unconscious, this spend does not necessarily wake them; that is at the storyteller's discretion.
Plot Twist: This can be used with the discretion of the staff to pull a minor "change to the script". It's usually enough to get a lucky break…someone just -happened- to be using an Orb of Thessula as a paperweight, or something like that. This requires staff/storyteller consent however, and will only be allowed for reasonable expenditures.
Righteous Fury: Spend 2 Drama Points, and gain +5 to all attack actions for the duration of an entire fight. This can only be done if the player has had /above and beyond the norm/ and so requires staff/storyteller approval.
Back From The Dead: Sometimes, bad things happen to good characters. By spending 1 DP, you can come back from the dead, next season. For 5, you can come back by the next Episode. Coming back in the same Episode is 10.
This doesn't necessarily mean a literal raising…instead, it means something that will take you out of the picture. Faith's coma, Angel's dumping in the ocean, Cordelia's becoming a higher being. Staff and the player will need to work the details of the raising out, and the return of the character is at staff's discretion (ie, if you keep getting killed due to stupidity, sooner or later we're going to deny the request).
