Background
Brooke's early life really weren't that different from anyone else. She's the only child of Mark and Rachel Conway, born and raised in New York City. Her mother is an artist (a painter), and her father is a graphic designer; visual arts were very much a household constant. Which in the classic children-rebelling-against-their-parents vein means that she went a different way. In her choice, she went through performing arts. Originally it was through singing…even as a young girl, she was fascinated with the tween singers, and her parents (thankfully) encouraged her with voice lessons after school.
Of course, living in New York led to some interesting moments. There was 9/11, during which she was only 12. Thankfully, her home is in the outlying suburbs, but needless to say, it instilled an early fear of terrorists, and a worry about…civil disruption. As she went through high school, she got interested in drama and theater, and no better place on the world for it than New York. She got into her school's drama activities; school plays and the like.
Unfortunately, that's when things took a sharp left for her. It was a lighting accident on the set…she was helping out, and some things had been mis-wired. When they threw the switch, most of the current in the school surged into Brooke. Inexplicably, it didn't kill her. Instead, it seemed to transform her. It charged her body up with electricity, making her a sort of living battery, and it seemed to be self-renewing. But it had down sides. She couldn't control it, meaning she was dangerous to the people around her. And what's more, certain government types were poking around, investigating the walking, talking free energy source.
It was time to get out of town. Brooke snuck out of the hospital and hopped a Greyhound, heading west. She took the first bus she could find, and it happened to be going to Las Vegas. She's been there ever since. She discovered her powers could manipulate electrical devices, and from there it was a piece of cake to sting the casinos on the electric slots. She got enough money to make a good life for herself, and that's exactly what she's done. Since then it's been clubs and the high life. She hits the casinos when she needs to top off her money, and she's been known to do some work for people who need to get past electronic security…if the price is right.
